Hitting guru Gerald Davis has returned to Orange County after winning his 9th National Championship and launching his “Pure Hitters” apparel as well as training local young sluggers.
“Hitting has been my focus and passion my entire life,” the 51-year-old Davis understated after his team won the 2022 Men’s Senior Baseball League (MSBL) 18U national championship in Florida this November.
Playing against players 30+ years younger, Davis hit .384 in the MSBL National Championship while facing pitching in the 85-92 MPH range. Overall, he has competed in five MSBL age divisions, including 50, 45, 35, 25, and now, 18U.
He attributes his longevity and ability to “hit the right way” to the lessons he learned in 11 years in the pros playing with or working with Jose Cruz Sr., Willie Upshaw, Paul Blair, Steve Braun, Jim Rice, Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, George Scott, Ron LeFlore, Frank White, and Mike Felder just to name a few.
“They all taught me to use the entire field, be a total hitter with no or limited holes in my swing, to take the proper approach without a lot of movement,” Davis explained.
Davis not only applies those lessons to his own game, but he also gives private “Pure Hitters” lessons and training throughout Orange County and OC Great Park, Irvine.
