BLUE WAVE UNDERCLASS (16U)

 

BLUE WAVE UNDERCLASS is for incoming sophomores (2027) and juniors (2026 grad year) that want to play at the high JV to varsity level this summer and play in some of the top local tournaments and collegiate showcase events during the high school off season, including:

  • Baseball Factory
  • USA Premier Baseball
  • Prospect Wire
  • CCYB – Adidas Showcase

NO B TEAMS OR STUFFED ROSTERS

Unlike some organizations that field dozens of teams or stuff their rosters so the best players do not need to pay, Blue Wave fields only one Underclass (16U) for the summer with a limited roster to ensure our players get their share of the reps.

This team is coached by Russ Martinez, a Tustin High School varsity assistant baseball coach and focused on getting his players to the next level.

TRYOUTS 1ST WEEK OF MAY

New Players must tryout at the conclusion of the general CIF season and posted at www.bluewaveathletics.com and set for:

  • MON MAY 6 – 7:00 PM @ OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9
  • TUE MAY 7 – 7:00 PM @ OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9

New players must register online to try out, practice, or play with any Blue Wave team or participate in any Blue Wave event.

There is no cost to register and no cost to try out!

Returning players do not need to re-register but need to confirm their status with respective coach or

OPTIONAL PRACTICES & GAMES

Players selected for our Blue Wave summer teams will practice weekly in May and into June and July based on field availability. To date, the following practice sessions are scheduled:

  • TUE MAY 14 @ 7 PM AT OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9
  • TUE MAY 21 @ 7 PM AT OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9
  • TUE MAY 28 @ 7 PM AT OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9
  • TUE JUNE 4 @ 7 PM AT OC GREAT PARK FIELD 9

Our 90-minute practice sessions are optional for all players and $25 a player when attended.

Blue Wave expects to set up one or two scrimmage games in May as players return from CIF playoffs, etc., with first tournaments starting over Memorial Day weekend as scheduled below.

Tune-up games or scrimmages are priced separately and also optional for players that can make them.

Going into the summer, each Blue Wave team will play in three or four tournaments/showcase events as listed.

Each event is priced separately and paid two weeks prior to event and only payment guarantees spot on roster. Package pricing is also available for various team events.

16U UNDERCLASS SHOWCASE TOURNAMENTS

  • May 24-27 CCYB Memorial Day Weekend Adidas Spikes tournament at OC Great Park, Irvine. Play three nine-inning wood-bat games, top four teams play for championship. Winners receive 12 Adidas cleats. For all 2027 & 2026 players that are still league age 16U. Cost is $225 per player, Pitcher Only is free. Roster is limited.
  • June 6-10 Baseball Factory Father’s Day Classic at OC Great Park, Irvine. Play 4 games against top teams with top recruiting services vendor. Free Personal Player Profile, Internal scouting presence and social media coverage, top performers recognition. Cost is $225, Pitcher Only is free. Limited roster.
  • June 21-25 USA Premier/Prospect Wire Firecracker Classic at OC Great Park, Irvine. Prospect Wire has joined forces with USA Premier Baseball to take the granddaddy of all SoCal summer showcases to the next level by deliver five games against the best teams in the Western Region. This event features:
    • Great Facilities and Competition
    • Live Scoring and Live Streaming
    • Scouting Coverage by the PW Scouting Staff
    • Full Social Media Coverage
    • Player Profiles Updated with Stats and Awards
    • Tournament Leaderboards, Player of the Game Coverage, MVP & MVPitcher Awards
    • PW All American Identifier Event For Grad Classes 2026, 2027, 2028

Cost is $275 per player, Pitcher Only is free. Roster is limited.

  • July 5-8 CCYB 2024 Travel Ball Underclass Team Showcase at Cal State Fullerton and local colleges for all 2025, 2026, and 2027 grads. Play three, nine-inning games in front of local college recruiters. Cost is $250 per player, Pitcher Only is free. Limited Roster.

Package price for all four above events is $795.

Tustin High School Baseball Assistant Varsity Coach Russ Martinez will take the helm for the Blue Wave Baseball 16U Underclass team for the Summer 2024 season.

Russ Martinez is a dedicated sports coach with a passion for helping athletes achieve their full potential. With over 6 years of experience coaching baseball and football, Russ has developed a reputation for his exceptional leadership skills, motivational coaching style, and unwavering commitment to his teams.

Born and raised in Barstow, California, Russ grew up with a deep love for sports. He attended Mt. San Antonio College, where he played football and honed his skills as a team player and leader. After college, Russ pursued a career in education, working in middle schools and high schools while continuing to coach on the side.

In 2015, Russ began his coaching career as a baseball coach, quickly establishing himself as a coach who could inspire and motivate his players to achieve their best. He also added football coaching to his repertoire, and for the next 6 years, Russ excelled in both roles, building strong teams and helping his athletes develop the skills they needed to succeed on and off the field.

As a coach, Russ believes in creating a positive and supportive environment where athletes can thrive. He takes a collaborative approach, working closely with each player to help them set and achieve their individual goals. His dedication to his teams is unwavering, and he is always willing to go the extra mile to help his players succeed.

Off the field, Russ enjoys spending time at the beach with his family. He believes in staying active and healthy, and encourages his players to do the same. With his passion for sports, his commitment to his teams, and his dedication to helping athletes succeed, Russ Martinez is a coach who truly makes a difference.
